Race, ruin, or cruise the streets of Chicago

In Microsoft’s Midtown Madness, the city of Chicago is your playing ground. There is traffic, street lights, stop signs, police, pedestrians and they all abide by the laws. When you race you will either race against contenders or against time and all other traffic still abides by laws so be prepared to whip in and out of those law abiding citizens and take any short cuts you can find. To start out you can pick any of the five unlocked cars. The other five are locked and you will have to prove your stuff to unlock them.
If you choose to cruise the city, it’s fun to run the streets with the city bus and tear anything down in your way or choose the Roadster and see how well you can zig zag through traffic with the cops on your tail. There are some secrets like doors that you can smash into and short cut through the building. People will yell and scream at you as you cut them off or hit them. People will dive out of your way when you recklessly speed down the sidewalk. You can knock street lights down and they collapse on the cars behind you causing collisions and wreckage.
The sound effects and graphics are great. You can set the collision intensity, the amount of pedestrians, the amount of traffic, the weather (snow, rain, clear), the time of day (day, dusk, night, dawn), realism, and the police intensity. The police intensity can only be a maximum of two police cars although when you’re in a race they do a good job of chasing and interfering with your driving so two police cars are plenty.
This game provides lots of realism, action, racing, and simulation altogether. You will want to have some kind of steering device other than your keyboard. Steering your car with the keyboard is a little difficult. If you like simulation, racing or cars you will enjoy this one very much.
