Golf Style – it’s in the bag

Ogio Flight SS with SchlingAfter finally purchasing the right set of golf clubs, the next item you will need to purchase is a golf bag. You have a wide choice of many golf bags out there to cater to your needs – all dependent upon your skill level and frequency of play. Your bag is often a reflection of your style, and the first thing players see when you go to grab your lucky driver. Remember that in the game of golf, it is not exactly about how well you can play but how well you look the part – which some would argue actually helps you to lower your scores or something like that. Look professional, feel professional, play professional…or at least better. That’s the theory anyway.

When looking to invest in a durable golf bag there are many options available. First, you need to assess your own needs. How much do you play? Do you usually ride a cart? Do you walk? What are your price limitations? What colors are important in a bag? Do you want to display your team pride? Once you’ve answered these questions you are ready to embark on your search for the perfect golf bag.

Evaluate your current golf addiction and decide how it might change in the future. If you golf a lot, purchase a bag that is tough and reliable. Narrow your choice down by choosing a cart bag or a carry bag. I suggest a standing bag only because it works for walking, riding and pulling but it’s about your personal preference. I like the Sun Mountain A-5 Stand Bag for under $100 and the Ogio Flight SS with Schling for those willing to spend a little more. As for cart bags, the Taylor Made Classic Cart 2.0 is an inexpensive choice and the MacGregor Staff Bag is a sleek, yet pricier, selection.

The second most important factor to functionality is the style of your golf bag. The bag is a reflection of you, so neon colors, crazy patterns and outrageous prints are more than accepted. Some people want to show off their new clubs by having a bag that represents their sticks. In fact, many people do this. But even amongst the different brands, you can choose flashy versus just plain functional.

For ladies, I have always been partial to pink bags with the Taylor Made R7 Stand Bag Lady 2006 being the Cadillac of all women’s bags. If pink isn’t your thing, I recommend Sun Mountain Sapphire Women’s Golf Cart Bag, which comes in array of colors and patterns, while maintaining a tradition appearance and reliability.

Signature Traditional Golf Bag Hunter/CognacOn the men’s side, you can’t get as much class and style from any other bag as you can from the Callaway 10.5 Tour Staff Bag, which screams you are a serious golfer. The Burton Signature Golf Cart Bag has the functionality of a great golf bag with the style and colors to prove it, also a great pick. You can purchase a bag to support your favorite college or professional football team with the line of collegiate and NFL golf bags. My personal favorite is the Collegiate Cart Bag- Penn State due to its stunning color ensemble, beautiful embroidery of the covenant Nittany Lion logo and its endorsement for the best place on earth (guess where I went to school?).

So find a bag that suits your play preferences as well as your taste in style. You never know who might be glancing over at you just before you drive one into the drink.
