Rudy (Deluxe Edition)1. Rudy (1993)
My love of Notre Dame Football aside, Rudy is one of the greatest sports movies of all time. Who cares if this film, which is “based on a true story,” is mostly fabricated? It’s a great film following the life of Daniel Rudy Ruettiger, as he chases his dream of playing football for Notre Dame. Who can’t relate to that? “Cheer, Cheer for Old Notre Dame!” On a side note, as a Notre Dame fan, I must point out that the movie’s villainous head coach, Dan Devine, was not nearly the jerk the movie made him out to be. The movie needed a villain, and Devine, as a favor to Rudy, allowed his character to become that villain. In fact, it was actually Devine’s idea that Rudy play.

DVD Guy’s Top 10 Sports Comedies

As the self appointed DVD Guy at Mr. Big Shop and well known sports nut, I decided to take a look at the top 10 sports comedies and dramas of all time. Feel free to argue, but I’m telling you right now, Rudy is going to be #1 in the dramas list and that won’t change…

The Art of the Album

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

I’d be tempted to say that “I hate iTunes” if I didn’t use it so much. Same goes for my iPod and my impressively large…MP3 collection (if only that size mattered). It’s not that I dislike the software or that I have some irrational qualm with music files. It boils down to the sheer fact that these mediums destroy the concept of “the album.”

The Boondock Saints (Unrated Special Edition)Boondock Saints: Uncut Special Edition
This one isn’t for the kiddies or the faint of heart. But those who aren’t opposed to gratuitous violence will love this flick. It follows the story of the MacManus Brothers (played by Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus) who find themselves in trouble with the mob after a bar room brawl. Obviously, mobsters don’t like being roughed up, especially by two Irish guys. After a drunken fire-setting melee, the mobsters seek bloody revenge on the two Irish brothers. Connor and Murphy MacManus (could they have given these guys more Irish names?) turn the tables on their mobster attackers and are praised as heroes. Consequently, they decide killing off the wicked of the world isn’t a bad idea. Murderous rampages ensue with Willem Dafoe playing the role of the detective hot on their trail. This movie didn’t see much time, if any, in theaters due to its violent nature, but has been a cult classic. The uncut special edition won’t disappoint.
